Christopher Chen, MD, MBA, joined City of Hope Phoenix in July 2023 as a medical oncologist at the Gilbert Outpatient Care Center. Board-certifiedin hematology, medical oncology and internal medicine, Dr. Chen has expertise in treating patients with all types of malignancies. Throughout his career, he has developed a particular interest in treating breast cancer, lung cancer, and hematologic malignancies.

Dr. Chen was introduced to City to Hope by博士共同发表“莎拉”公园, a fellow oncologist at City of Hope Phoenix.

“Dr. Park spoke with me about the patient-focused cancer care practiced at City of Hope, and that approach really resonated with me,” he said. “When an opportunity arose to move to Phoenix to join the Gilbert Outpatient Care Center and be closer to family, I couldn’t have been more thrilled.”

In addition to our patient-focused approach to care, Dr. Chen was excited by the prospect of getting to employ new, leading-edge treatments in clinical trials. This meshed perfectly with his background in research, as Dr. Chen has authored a number of publications on hematology throughout his career.

Dr. Chen knew that he wanted to work in medicine from a very young age. This passion was solidified during his undergraduate studies when he volunteered at Washington University School of Medicine. He had initially intended to become a geriatrician since he was raised by grandparents. However, over the course of rotations, he became fascinated by the ever-changing science of oncology and wanted to pursue a career in hematology and oncology.

Dr. Chen earned both his Doctor of Medicine and Master of Business Administration degrees from State University of New York at Buffalo before starting internal medicine residency at the University of Arizona in Tucson, where he was selected to be Chief Resident. He then started his hematology oncology fellowship at the University of Arizona where he was selected to be Chief Fellow. He graduated from training in 2017, and worked as a general hematologist and oncologist at a community practice in Tucson where he was the medical director for 5 years prior to moving to the greater Phoenix area.

在外面啊f work, Dr. Chen enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter. He is a big hockey fan, which he attributes to growing up in Canada.

Patient ratings
Star ratings and comments are only available for medical, radiation and gynecologic oncologists. Gynecologic surgical offerings are not included at this time due to a different survey tool required to evaluate these services. CTCA uses a validated Press Ganey®survey, which captures patient experience feedback for the primary oncology services of chemotherapy and radiation therapy at our comprehensive care and research centers. Following industry best practice, star ratings and comments are only published for physicians with a minimum of 30 completed patient surveys.
