Kevin King,MD

Kevin King, MD, joinedCity of Hope Chicago, Illinois, in August 2023 as a Radiation Oncologist, workingclosely with the Downtown Chicago outpatient clinic team to evaluate and treat patients with a variety of types and stages of cancer. Dr. King is particularly focused on oligometastatic disease, applying an accelerated approach to radiation therapy andproviding a seamless, patient-focused experience. As a resident of downtown Chicago, Dr. King works diligently to expand the outpatient clinic's services and provide world-class care to the people of Chicago.

Dr. King's medical journey was inspired by a middle school friend's struggle with leukemia, and in tribute, he had his chest tattooed with the words “Hope & Faith.” After shadowing a radiation oncologist during medical school, Dr. King fell in love with the program. He joined City of Hope because he saw an opportunity to deliver a higher level of care in Chicago and loves the ability to prioritize speed to care—reducing patients’ anxiety by preventing them from living in limbo during a difficult time in their lives.

Originally from Batavia, Illinois, Dr. King began his medical career with two years of service in Azerbaijan with the Peace Corps. He then earned his medical degree from RushMedical College in Chicago, Illinois, followed by an internal medicine residency at University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences, also in Chicago. While completing a radiation oncology residency at Rush University Medical Center, he served as chief resident and was named Resident of the Year, Researcher of the Year and earned Crain's Healthcare Hero Award.

Dr. King’s works range from exploring the impact of routine surveillance imaging in head and neck cancers to hypofractionated radiation boosts in prostate cancer. As an expert in advanced radiation therapy, he’s developed skills that include stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) and intensity modified radiation therapy (IMRT)—treating a range of conditions, including brain, head and neck, lung, liver, adrenal, spine, prostate and gynecologic malignancies.

In pursuing his commitment to his community and profession, Dr. King is a member of a number of professional organizations, including the American Society of Radiation Oncology, the American College of Radiation Oncology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American College of Radiology, the Radiological Society of North America, Illinois State Radiologic Society and the Chicago Radiologic Society.

Outside of City of Hope, Dr. King and his husband love watching theater, trying new activities and foods and exploring the city on foot as part of a practice they call “urban hiking.”
